Bridges

This is a restoration that replaces or spans the space where one or more teeth have been lost. A fixed bridge is bonded or cemented into place - only a dentist can remove it.

Bridges work best when theres a single missing tooth surrounded by healthy teeth Teeth on either side of the missing tooth are prepared for a crown. Dr. Noetzel will take an impression of the teeth to create your new bridge. Crowns are designed to cover the two teeth that have been prepared by the dentist. A third crown is designed to fill in the space vacated by the missing tooth - this crown is permanently attached to the crowns on either side forming a bridge over he space where the tooth was lost.

A bridge is commonly cemented or bonded to the natural teeth next to the space left by the missing teeth. An artificial tooth (called a pontic) replaces the lost natural tooth, and restores its function. A pontic is attached to a crown (restoration that covers a tooth). Crowns, which are cemented on adjacent prepared teeth, serve as retainers that support the bridge. The bridge can be attached to your natural teeth. Different types of artificial teeth may be used such as gold, porcelain-fused to metal, or all porcelain.

Maryland Bridge is a resin-bonded bridge, can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. Because it is attached by a special procedure called bonding, it does not require the use of crowns or extensive tooth preparation.

The bridge is designed in a laboratory to fit your bite and match the color of the surrounding teeth, giving you a natural-looking smile.
